Chiropractic is a branch of the healing arts that emphasizes the recuperative power of the body to heal itself without the use of drugs or surgery.

Chiropractors do not promote drugs or surgery unless a more serious pathology exists then a medical doctor would be more beneficial to the patient.

The practice of chiropractic focuses on the relationship between structure (primarily of the spine) and function (primarily the nervous system) and how that relationship affects the preservation and restoration of health.

In addition, Doctors of Chiropractic recognize and have the responsibility to work with other health care providers when in the best interest of the patient.

Chiropractic is concerned with the preservation and restoration of health, and focuses most on the subluxation. A subluxation is a complex of functional and/or structural and/or pathological articular changes that compromise neural integrity and may influence organ system function and general health. There are different types of chiropractors that practice different types of chiropractic.

A subluxation is evaluated, diagnosed and managed through the use of chiropractic procedures. For a detailed description of a subluxation visit the subluxation page under D.C. vs. M.D.

How does Chiropractic work?

Chiropractic works by restoring optimum joint and soft tissue function through manipulation or adjusting. Chiropractors perform chiropractic tests to diagnose and treat the body.

Restoring these structures and biomechanical functions can result in improved health in many different ways.

Who practices Chiropractic?

Licensed Doctors of Chiropractic, are entitled by law and education to practice under the name "Chiropractor." A Doctor of Chiropractic may also be called a "Chiropractic Physician."

There are many chiropractors who specialize, and earn more chiropractor credentials, most are approved by the American Chiropractic Association.

Other chiropractors devote their career to teaching or chiropractic research.
