Background Information on P90X P90X is a home based exercise program created by Tony Horton; a fitness trainer for the company Beachbody. This exercise program guarantees fitness and body transforming results in 90 days through rigorous exercise and a nutritional/supplement plan. The foundation of the program is “muscle confusion,” a method of cross-training and periodization accomplished through switching the order of the exercises and incorporating new movements as the program progresses. P90X is not for a beginner just starting to exercise nor is it for someone just wanting to get back into fitness. This program takes a medium level of fitness from the beginning and as the program progresses you will see your fitness level greatly increase.

Insanity is another hardcore Beachbody program created by Shaun T. A professional fitness trainer for Beachbody. The Insanity program is exactly what the name implies. This program is definitely not for the beginner.

**Our P90X Story**
My wife Chelsey and I started P90X in 2008 after seeing the infomercial late one night studying. At this time we were in chiropractic school in St. Louis. It took quite a bit of influence from Chelsey to get me to start this home based exercise program. After all, I thought I knew everything about fitness and would never benefit from working out at home.
That all changed the minute I started looking through the booklets and watching the DVD’s. Tony Horton puts a different spin on getting fit. I always knew about “muscle confusion,” but not in an organized manner such as this. I decided to try it and our P90X journey had begun.
The first week was hell and the nutrition plan was almost worse. The nutrition plan had us eating more and spending more on groceries than we ever had in our lives.
The second and third week were the same hell as week one, but by this time we were starting to see significant changes in our fitness and physique. As the program raged on it was a struggle everyday as we studied for tests, sat in class all day, and took board exams. This struggle turned into our stress relief as we worked out harder and harder.
Towards the end of the program Tony Horton’s humor got a little hard to bear but Chelsey and I were seeing serious results. I started the program at 190lbs and finished at 188lbs.. I only lost two pounds but I went from 12% body fat down to 6.5% body fat. Chelsey lost 3 pounds and dropped 7% body fat.
The strength training with the plyometrics, and cardio allow you to drop body fat without losing muscle mass.
Our P90X journey inspired our classmates, friends, and family to learn more and start the program.
