My Scoliosis Chiropractic StoryMy name is Tracy Binnion and this is my scoliosis chiropractic story. I want to let you know that scoliosis does not have to take over your life, it didn't mine and I conquered it with the help of scoliosis chiropractic care.
My Story:When I was thirteen I was diagnosed with scoliosis. I had no idea anything was wrong with me until they did a check at my elementary school. One of the ladies checked my back and then pulled me aside to give me a letter that needed to go home. I knew immediately that something was wrong. The letter told my parents that I needed to see a doctor as soon as possible because they think I could have a severe case of scoliosis. My mom made me an appointment with my pediatrician. He took a look at my back and sent me down for x-rays at the hospital. When he got the x-rays back, he immediately showed me and my mom. We both were shocked at what we saw. It looked like my spine was in the shape of an “S.” The doctor told my mom that this is indeed a severe case of scoliosis and that I need to go see a specialist in Indianapolis. Being only thirteen and hearing something like that I was scared beyond belief. My mom told me everything will be fine, we’ll just go and see what they say. So my next visit was to a specialist at Riley Children’s Hospital. I went in and they of course wanted to take x-rays of my back to see what they were dealing with. This doctor told me something I did not want to hear. He tells me and my parents that this problem will only be able to be fixed with surgery. He wanted to cut me open and place metal rods in my back to straighten my spine as much as possible.
No Way...I was thinking it my head no way is this going to happen. My parents told me not to stress just yet that we will go and get a second opinion. So that’s what we did. Back to Indianapolis we went to see another doctor. At first I thought this doctor is giving me hope. But then he said the word that I didn’t want to hear, surgery. He too thinks the only way to fix this is to have the surgery and get those rods placed in my back. Being the stubborn person that I am, I told my parents there was absolutely no way that I was going to get this surgery.
Scoliosis Chiropractic:Back home my parents and I tried to think if there was anything else that we could possibly do. It just didn’t look likely. Then one day my mom thought she would give the chiropractor across the street a call and just see what he has to say. He told my mom that we needed to come in and he would see what he could do. So at our first visit he sat us down and explained what chiropractic was all about. Then he proceeded to tell us that he helps people like me everyday. He said he even has a patient right now that has had the metal rods placed in her back and it didn’t help her. So now this girl is treated with chiropractic care. I thought to myself this is wonderful news I can get the help I need without actually having to get the surgery. So I started immediately seeing the chiropractor 2-3 a week for the rest of my school years. I was even able to get a couple inches taller during my care because I was still growing. Thanks to chiropractic my life was forever changed. I will never have a straight spine but with the care of a chiropractor I have a normal life.
